My name is Josh Zeigler. I am a family guy, tech geek, sports nut, travel addict, and IRONMAN triathlete. This is my personal blog site and digital playground. It started as a technical blog (ziggytech.net) and has morphed into a general personal site where I post my resume, upcoming races, race results, and race recaps.
I have been married to my wife, Terri, since 2002. We both grew up in the Toledo, Ohio area, but now live outside of Columbus in Powell, Ohio. I am very proud of our child, Zoe, who is a talented artist and attends Bowling Green State University, studying Fine Arts. Our family also includes Titan (Jack Russel terrier mix) and Nala (Pitbull).
For over 20 years, I’ve been working in the technology sector, where I have focused on web application technologies. Since 2011, I have been working at Cardinal Health in a variety of technical lead and management roles through Enterprise Architecture, Fuse, and Ecommerce. I’m currently in a Principal Solution Architect role at Fuse, our Commercial Technologies organization, supporting OptiFreight. My professional specialties and interests lie in Solution Architecture, DevOps, cloud, APIs, web technologies, mobile, and user experience. Before Cardinal Health, I spent 6 years as a senior developer and development manager for Resource Interactive (now IBM iX), an interactive marketing agency in Columbus, Ohio, and 4 years at CISP, an Internet and Co-location provider in Toledo, Ohio.
In my free time, I enjoy home automation and home improvement projects. I’m fascinated with gadgets and the Internet of Things (IoT). I also enjoy watching football, baseball, basketball, and soccer. I am a Notre Dame and all-around college sports fan – especially football and also enjoy the basketball tournaments. My wife and I are big Detroit Tiger’s fans and love to attend the Toledo Mud Hens, Columbus Clippers, Columbus Blue Jackets games. I’m a big fan of sampling different spirits, picking up a taste for bourbon during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Terri and I are enjoying our semi-empty nester lifestyle, spending our time traveling as well as sampling our local restaurants and breweries in the area. We enjoy traveling to new places and learning about other cultures. You can often find us spending time at all-inclusive resorts, cruising, exploring new cities, and visiting the Orlando theme parks, including Disney World and Universal.
In the summer of 2012 I started running and working out to lose weight. Running quickly extended to swimming and cycling – and ultimately the 3 sports were put together for my first triathlon. I have completed numerous marathons, ultra-marathons, bike tours, triathlons, and IRONMAN events. Triathlons and cycling events, including Pelotonia, consume the bulk of my summers.
Growing Up
I grew up in Holland, Ohio, where I graduated in 1999 from Springfield High School. After graduating, I attended Stautzenberger College where I took classes in web development and network infrastructure. While in school, I started ZiggyTech, a technology services company. My early work through ZiggyTech mainly consisted of building custom computers and setting up small office networks. This has since evolved into primary web development work.
To bring in a steady paycheck while in college, I worked as a dispatcher and security officer in the police department at the Medical College of Ohio. While working at MCO (now a part of the University of Toledo), I was asked to administer the department’s records management system (ARMS). After nearly 3 years, I moved on to work at Convergys as a technical support agent for AT&T’s @Home cable internet service.
My career in tech support was short-lived and I found myself looking to Columbus, Ohio for work. I found a job at the Custom Computer Warehouse where I sold computer parts and built custom PC’s. I had a lot of fun working at CCW, but computer sales wasn’t helping much when trying to feed a family.
My Professional Journey
In December of 2002, I landed what I consider my first career job as a web developer with CISP, an internet services company in Toledo, Ohio. CISP’s primary business at the time was providing turnkey solutions for dial-up ISP’s. While working at CISP, my first position was to build custom portal web sites for the many different ISP customers we serviced. This opportunity allowed me to learn and develop with Microsoft technologies such as Classic ASP and ASP.NET. Later, my duties expanded to include building other custom tools including dialer software, creating instant messenger clients, and skinning the SlipStream’s dial-up accelerator. After almost 2 years, I was asked to take over the role of database administrator and began servicing Microsoft SQL 2000 servers. The main task in this position was to maintain billing databases for ISP customers on the Rodopi billing platform. CISP later formed YoColo, hosting dedicated and virtual servers. The creation of YoColo provided the opportunity to build a custom, self-contained billing platform using SQL 2000 and ASP.NET. After 3 years at CISP, I felt I had learned as much as I could and realized it was time to move on.
After weeks of discussion with my wife, I once again pursued work in Columbus, where I was given an opportunity to do contact web development for Resource Interactive in their retail studio. With a fantastic opportunity thrown in my lap, the family and I packed up and moved to Columbus where we have been living for since June of 2006. After a year of contacting, Resource offered me a full time position which I enthusiastically accepted. Resource Interactive was an incredible place to work. I had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the industry. I also had the pleasure to work on many large projects for huge retailers including DSW, Kohler, Kohls, DirectBuy, Walgreen’s, Chico’s, Express, Wendy’s and many others. Agency life was stressful and required a very solid commitment in which I found myself needing more time with my family.
In August of 2011, I was presented with an opportunity to work for Cardinal Health, a company that improves the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. Definitely a change of pace and an opportunity to learn and grow in a new environment, I accepted the position as an Enterprise Architecture Consultant for the newly created Labs team. Over the years at Cardinal Health I have worked in different Technical Lead and Senior Engineer roles at Fuse, an internal commercial technology organization on the Medication Order Management System project and in Ecommerce for the Corporate Websites and Cardinal Health Market Ecommerce platform. I spent 3 years as the Manager of the first Site Reliability Engineering team at Cardinal Health, where I managed operations and platforms for Cardinal Health Market, our Corporate Web Sites, and eCommerce Digital Marketing.
Most recently, I have been working back at Fuse as a Principal Solutions Architect, supporting our OptiFreight business.
